Recording Your Design

Baby Holding Hand Young Family At Beach My Parents
As you decide on your Bespoke DVD design, it helps to write everything down on paper. This is particularly true for projects with more than one section or for projects using material saved on different media.

And by having a written record of your design, you'll find labelling your source material and briefing Ginger Tom Studios that much easier and quicker.

Below you'll find our recommended way of writing out your DVD design.
Return to "Design Your DVD"

An Example Design

Imagine you're creating a "Party" DVD with 2 sections:-

Sequence 1 - A sequence of photographs & slides;
Sequence 2 - A sequence of video clips & digital images.

Sequence 1
On your first sheet of paper list the photographs you want to use in Sequence 1 - in the order you want them to appear:-

SHEET 1
Sequence 1: Party - Photographs
ImageDescription
1Angie & Ted
2Samantha
3Harry
(We ask you to use the same image numbers to identify your photographs when you send them to us).

Then on a separate sheet of paper list the slides you want to use in Sequence 1 - in the order you want them to appear:-

SHEET 2
Sequence 1: Party - Slides
ImageDescription
1Samantha & Harry
2Harry's Mate
(We ask you to use the same image numbers to identify your slides when you send them to us).

Lastly, write out on a third sheet of paper the overall order in which you want the photographs & slides to appear in Sequence 1:-

SHEET 3
Sequence 1: Party - Summary Sheet

Photos2Samantha
Slides1Samantha & Harry
Photos3Harry
Slides2Harry's Mate

Sequence 2
On your next sheet of paper list the MiniDV video clips you want included in Sequence 2 - in tape order. Also make a note of the video titles you want to appear with these clips.

If you don't want the clips to appear in tape order on your DVD - just create a second list on the same sheet showing the clips in sequence order.

SHEET 4
Sequence 2: The Morning After - MiniDV

2The Mess7mins 50secs11mins 23secs
3The Clean-up15mins 5secs21mins 3secs"Clean-up!"

List on a fifth sheet of paper the memory card digital images you want to appear in Sequence 2 - in sequence order.

SHEET 5

And finally, on your last sheet of paper show how you want to combine these video clips and digital images to form Sequence 2.

Notes:

As you can see from this example, we recommend that for each sequence of your DVD you:-
  1. List the material you're using from different media sources on separate sheets of paper - in sequence or tape order.

  2. List the section's content in sequence order on a further summary sheet. (If there's more than one media source).

  3. Create a brief description of each clip and image to help keep track of your material.
Taking a few minutes to write down your project design in this way is time well spent. It greatly clarifies your thinking, simplifies briefing us on the project and will help you label your material correctly ready for sending to Ginger Tom Studios.
