nce you've finalised the overall design of your Bespoke DVD, it's time to decide which of your images need
digital correction and where to add some creative effects.
ll the prints and slides you supply are scanned at high resolution and
are digitally enhanced to remove any small imperfections revealed by the scanning process - as standard.
Where prints and slides have significant dust, hair or colour-fading problems - you can opt for these images to receive extra digital restoration.
Please Note: Images requiring major restoration should be digitally enhanced by a specialist photographic restorer prior to being sent to Ginger Tom Studios.
hen editing images for DVD, a choice often has to be made between
showing all of the image with a border or filling the screen with part of the image.
Both approaches can be used to good effect - depending on how close the main subject is to the edge of the picture and the image dimensions.
You can let Ginger Tom Studios choose between these two options on your behalf or you can specify the "border" or "pan" movement effect you want applied to an image instead.
The following examples show some of the situations that commonly arise:-
Example 1 - Close To The Edge
Original Image
Cropped Image Onscreen
Image with Border Onscreen
For this image - adding the border effect ensures all of the composition is shown onscreen and is our preferred option.
TV's always crop some parts of an image and here important parts of the content would be lost if no border effect was applied.
Example 2 - No Border Required
Original Image
Cropped Image Onscreen
Image with Border Onscreen
Here we think cropping the original image is a better option than showing the whole picture with a border onscreen.
Example 3 - A Moving Image?
Original Image
Cropped Image Onscreen
Image with Border Onscreen
For this image either the cropped or border option could work, but we would recommend a left to right pan as the best solution.
Using this movement effect would retain the feeling of the original image and show the subject in close-up onscreen.
o ensure that every part of an image is shown on screen,
just specify "no cropping" and we will apply our standard black border effect to the picture.
Unfortunately TVs do not display the entire image without this adjustment.
e recommend that you apply a panning movement effect
to those images that would lose their appeal if they were greatly reduced or cropped to fit on screen.
For instance, a bottom-to-top pan could work well for a standing shot of a newly-married couple at their wedding.
Whilst a left-to-right pan is likely to be the best option for a large family group photograph taken on the same day.
Selectively using pan movement effects can add considerable impact to your DVD.
dding a witty comment or some explanatory text below an image
on screen is another way of adding impact to your DVD.
To work effectively an image caption should consist of a limited number of words.
(Note: Images with captions will have additional cropping or resizing applied to them).
e recommend that you write brief details of the extra effects & processing you want onto your project design sheets.
